Maybe one day I’ll release this properly. Or maybe not. What does ‘properly’ actually mean?
For now, I wanted to share this as a way of saying thank you for all being here. I’m 2 weeks into my Substack journey and can already feel a beautiful and thoughtful community forming. Further, it’s proving to be an inspiring place for my creative expression so I’m grateful for that.
This is a very raw little demo I made on May 13th in 2020, the year the world (as we knew it) ended. It’s tentatively titled, ‘I Want To Touch Your Mind’.
Sometimes I like to share about what my songs mean, but sometimes it’s nicer to just let them have the stage and land wherever they land.
I like to think of these newsletters as little light-beams being sent out into the world, I don’t know what they will illuminate but I trust they’ll light up a corner somewhere. Light is reliable like that, it always reveals something.
Ps. In the future, you might notice that audio like this is falling under a paywall. That just means that portion is for people who are contributing from their pocket to this space. Perhaps you’ll consider joining at that level on that day, but even if you don’t there’ll be plenty for you to digest and I’ll share some free audio edibles from time to time.
Although I spend most of my life recording and releasing music in a ‘professional’ way, I really like the idea of sharing rough demos (and things that don’t make it to the shiny, oversaturated halls of Spotify yet feel just as important to my process and who I am as an artist) over here. So in that sense, maybe think of it like a little donation at the door of a speakeasy. Now and then I’ll pop in and play a song.
Till next time,
Amazing. My goodness. Thank you, Kimbra. Love, love, love it...exactly as it is.
This is so sweet and yummy and raw! I love your courage and your willingness to share this part of your process. Feels like I just witnessed the birth of a beautiful brand new song baby. Thank you!
